Jobs

Getting our economy back up and running is my first priority. It is important that we get this right and get Nevadans back to work. As a small business owner with 15 locations statewide, I know how to create jobs and grow the economy. I am concerned that the tax and spend policies of our current legislature will further depress our economy and lead to a long-term recession. I pledge to help business grow through low tax and low regulation policies that will attract entrepreneurs from around the country to come to Nevada. After all, these policies are what attracted me to relocate to Nevada over 10 years ago.

Parental Rights

As a strong supporter of individual rights, I will fight to protect the Fundamental Right of parents to raise and guide the education of their children. Parents have a Fundamental Right under the 14th Amendment to raise their children as they choose, free from undue state interference. As the Supreme Court stated in Pierce v. Society of Sisters, “the child is not the mere creature of the state”. To keep Nevada families strong and cohesive, Parental Rights should to be protected.

Gun Rights

The Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution guarantees that individual citizens have a Fundamental Right to gun ownership and use. In D.C. v Heller, the Supreme Court reinforced that gun rights are; 1) An individual right, 2) for Arms in common use, 3) for the purpose of hunting, recreation, collection, and self-defense. As an Assemblyman, I will protect Nevadan’s Right to gun ownership.

Religious Liberty

I pledge to uphold and protect the entire First Amendment. The First Amendment contains two components dealing with religious liberty.

  1. Establishment Clause- “Congress shall pass no law respecting the establishment of religion…”. This means that the government cannot set up a state religion, endorse a religion, or coerce persons into adhering to any particular religion. Conversely, this clause also prevents the government from being hostile to religion. “The government must be neutral when it comes to competition between sects… We cannot read into he Bill of Rights such a philosophy of hostility to religion”. Zorach v. Clause.
  2. Free Exercise Clause- “or prohibiting the free exercise thereof…”. The Supreme Court has determined that our government has no business regulating religious beliefs or religious speech. As an Assemblyman, I would seek to protect the religious practices of all religions.

Health care

Health care is an area of particular interest to me. As a dentist-anesthesiologist, former Ambulatory Surgical Center owner and dentist to special needs patients I believe my expertise would greatly benefit the citizens of the state of Nevada. I have opened 15 Children’s Dentistry offices state-wide, and built the first Dental-specific Ambulatory Surgical Center in the state. I have worked closely with the Nevada State medicaid program and federal programs like medicare to ensure that the most vulnerable patients get quality dental care.

On a personal note, I was diagnosed with Testicular cancer while in Law School and went through surgery and chemotherapy. Fortunately, I am healthy and cancer free. This was made possible because I had quality PPO health insurance. I believe maintaining an individual’s health insurance is a Fundamental right and will fight to protect the private health insurance market. The benefit of private health insurance is the speed and efficiency of life-saving medical treatment that rarely come with government health insurance. For those who want to eliminate the private health insurance market and go to a Medicare-for-all plan, I will fight to oppose any plan that puts a bureaucrat between patients and their doctor.

Education

When it comes to education, I support an “all of the above” approach, along with school choice. By giving parents the ability to choose alternative Schools, they can overcome the systemic disadvantages of under-performing schools. Parents should be able to choose which school is the best fit for their child. I believe a productive learning environment requires a teacher to have control over the classroom. Through legislation we can empower teachers to regain control of the learning environment and focus on improving reading, writing and mathematics.

Taxation

Unlike the Federal Government, states cannot print their own money. To meet its goals, Nevada has to either increase taxes or cut spending to balance the state budget. In 2015, the legislature passed the largest tax increase in the state’s history, mainly to help fund Medicaid and K-12 education. I believe the state has generated plenty of revenue to meet its obligations and I would not support any further tax increases. Politicians are not entitled to anymore tax revenue than necessary to meet the obligations of state government.
